The school’s 55 - acre campus is in close proximity to several institutions of higher learning, including the University of California, Irvine, Concordia University and Chapman University. In with an enrollment of 93 students who fully participate in the school’s academic, athletic and activities programs. Ninety - seven percent of University High School graduates enter post - secondary educational programs. University High School students have consistently been successful in national and state academic awards programs such as the National Merit Scholarship Program, the Siemens Foundation Awards Program and the Robert C. Byrd Scholar - ship Program. University High School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The school was recognized by the Department of Education as an exemplary school in the Secondary School Recognition Program in 1987. In 1988 and 1992, the school was recognized as a California Distinguished School. The school’s mission is to enable each student to become a contributing member of society with an ap- meet the challenges of a changing world by providing the highest quality educational experience we can envision. Students are expected to do their own work. This includes test taking, homework, class assignments and the creation of original essays, compositions, term papers and scientific research. Academic Honesty and Integrity: University High School offers a rigorous academic curriculum. The majority of classes are offered at the College Preparatory level. Honors and Advanced Placement courses can be taken when students meet specific grade requirements and have a teacher’s recommendation . There are six class periods during the regular school day. Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Marching Band, Pageantry, Color Guard, Treble Ensemble/Chorale, Madrigals, Tech Theatre and Advanced Theatre Productions are offered as seventh period classes. The Irvine Unified School District’s minimum credit requirements for high school graduatio n are listed below.
