MoME TuM message from the president wrap up my tenure as president and olunteer of�cer for the Greater Wichita YM this falla truly feel like celebrating. elebrating the amazing work accomplished by Y volunteersa members and staff over the past two years. he road hasn’t always been smooth in this rocky economya but the team ’ve had the privilege of leading has always remained focused. nda that focus has brought success. We’ve celebrated our 125th nniversary. We’ve changed more lives than ever before through activities at our Y branches and more than 100 community-based program sites. We’ve helped more families with free and assisted trong kids programs the ever beforea and we’ve laid the groundwork for meeting our goal to serve 3 out of every 4 kids in the community by 2013 with six major capital expansion projects. eedless to saya it’s been a very busy two years. my term concludesa because the Y isn’t slowing down one bit in its commitment to strengthening our community. n facta its commitment is gaining momentum. or examplea the very kid capital expansion projects are in full swing to provide new opportunities for area families. amp Hyde has already seen its expanded lake and nature center serve an additional 100 campers each week this past summera and it will add a new equestrian center and outdoor pool to serve more kids next summer. outh Y wrapped up phase one on its new outdoor sport complex with the addition of turf �eldsa �eld lightinga permanent goal posts and parking. When phase two is complete it will further expand outdoor sport opportunities as well as offer a walking path. orthwest Y’s renovation and expansion is underway and will add more than 10a000 sq. ft. of space for youth dancea cheera tumbling and wellness programs this winter (watch for details later this year on new classes). onstruction is also progressing on the new entral amily YM CA (pictured). his �agship Ya opening late 2012a will bring numerous opportunities to local families. he Y also added operation of the Garvey ports enter (1410 . Glendale) this year and will offer basketball practices and games for ast and orth Y families this fall. n addition to these projectsa the Y also launched a variety of adaptive programs (p. 15) this past year and will be lauching a series of disease management programs (p. 7) this fall. ike saida we aren’t slowing down.
